LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is a mixture of Propane (C3H8) and Butane (C4 H10). LPG is used as a fuel for domestic use and industrial and agricultural applications. LPG is stored in a liquid state at temperatures of -42oC (Propane) and -1oC (Butane).
LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is mainly produced through two main sources:
Processing from natural gas
– Separation from natural gas: LPG is found in raw natural gas, along with other hydrocarbons such as methane and ethane. During natural gas processing, the LPG components (mainly propane and butane) are separated from the natural gas stream .
– Fractionation: Natural gas goes through a series of steps, such as compression and cooling, that allow heavier hydrocarbons such as propane and butane to be isolated and removed. They are then stored in a liquid state under pressure to create LPG.
Crude oil refining
– Fractional distillation: LPG is also produced during the refining of crude oil. Crude oil contains a mixture of hydrocarbons that need to be separated in refineries. Through a process called fractional distillation, crude oil is heated and its components are separated based on their boiling points.
– LPG Fraction: Propane and butane are the main components of LPG, found in lighter fractions that condense at relatively low temperatures during this process. These fractions are captured, purified and compressed into a liquid state for use as LPG.
The Middle East is the largest producer and exporter of LPG, while North America is another significant contributor.
Major LPG consuming countries include Asia (China, India, Japan), Europe and increasingly Africa.
LPG resources are closely linked to areas with developed oil and gas industries and from there international LPG trade activities develop to
meet the global LPG supply.
As Vietnam’s energy demand increases, clean, efficient and affordable fuels such as LPG are chosen by Customers as the main energy source for civil and industrial use.
To meet that demand along with the demand for PP (Polypropylene) plastic granules for the industry, Hyosung Vina Chemicals has built 2 Propane and Butane storage tanks with a capacity of 170,000 tons of Propane and 70,000 tons of Butane. Our products ensure quality according to Vietnamese standards and are distributed through intermediaries and traders to provide to civil and industrial customers.

LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is produced and sourced mainly from regions with abundant natural gas and crude oil reserves. The major global sources of LPG are concentrated in countries that are major producers of natural gas and crude oil. Some of the major regions and countries are as follows:
Middle East
Saudi Arabia: One of the world’s largest LPG producers, due to its huge oil and natural gas reserves.
Qatar: A significant exporter of LPG, mainly sourced from its huge natural gas fields, especially the North Field.
United Arab Emirates (UAE): Another major LPG producer, with the oil and gas industry being the main source.
Kuwait: A major LPG producer, taking advantage of its large natural gas reserves.
North America
United States: The United States is one of the largest producers and exporters of LPG, largely due to natural gas production from shale formations (such as the Permian Basin and Marcellus Shale).
Canada: Canada produces LPG from natural gas fields in Alberta and British Columbia, and is also a major exporter to the United States and other regions.
Russia and CIS countries.
Russia: A major LPG producer due to its vast natural gas reserves, including those in Siberia.
Russia is also a major exporter of LPG to Europe and Asia.
Kazakhstan: Another important LPG producer in the region, thanks to its large oil and gas reserves.
Africa
Algeria: One of Africa’s leading LPG producers, exporting mainly to Europe. Their LPG is largely a by-product of natural gas production.
Nigeria: With large oil and gas reserves, Nigeria produces and exports LPG, although domestic consumption is also increasing.
Asia-Pacific
China: While China imports the majority of its LPG, it is also a producer, particularly from its domestic refining industry.
Australia: Australia produces LPG from its natural gas resources, mainly in Western Australia, and is a significant exporter.
Indonesia: A producer and consumer of LPG, largely due to its oil and gas reserves.
Europe
Norway: A major producer of LPG, sourced from North Sea oil and gas fields.
Netherlands : A producer of LPG, mainly from natural gas fields and refineries.
LPG is a versatile and environmentally friendly fuel, ideal for a wide range of applications, from domestic cooking and heating to industrial power generation. It offers a number of benefits, including:
– Clean combustion source: Produces fewer emissions than coal or oil, contributing to a greener environment.
– Energy efficient: LPG has a high calorific value, providing significant energy in smaller quantities.
– Cost-effective: This is a budget-friendly alternative for both households and businesses.
– Safe and portable: Easy to store and transport in liquid form, can be used even in remote areas.
